Special Initiative: Weeks of service

As we embark on a new year of service, we are excited to introduce our Service Focus Weeks for 2025-2026. These weeks are designed to create a global impact by concentrating our efforts on specific causes. By aligning our service activities, we can amplify our impact and visibility, showing the world the power of collective action.

Service Focus Weeks

  • MENTAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING:  October 4 - 12, 2025 Aligns with World Mental Health Day
  • HUNGER: January 3 - 11, 2026, Celebrate Melvin Jones' Birthday
  • ENVIRONMENT: April 18 - 26, 2026 Aligns with Earth Day

Each week of service will incorporate two weekends to allow clubs maximum flexibility in their planning. We encourage to engage our district clubs with these causes throughout the year, but during these specific weeks, we aim to create a unified, global impact.

Worldwide Environment Week - Cleaning of Mangrove Forests

On the occasion of World Earth Day and in keeping with the "Worldwide Week for Environment" the Lions Club of Candolim partnered with the Village Panchayat of Candolim in helping clean up the mangrove forests along the sides of the bundh near the Nerul bridge. Mangroves are nurseries for fish, crabs, prawns, other marine life and birds. When plastic and debris accumulate, they choke roots and destroy habitats. Cleaning helps preserve species that depend on mangroves for breeding and shelter. Mangrove roots stabilize riverbanks and act as natural barriers against tides and storms. When clogged with waste, their structure weakens, increasing the risk of soil erosion and flooding in nearby areas. The removal of more than 30 bags of waste plastic will definitely go a long way in protection of this biodiversity hot-spot.
