Special Initiative: Weeks of service

As we embark on a new year of service, we are excited to introduce our Service Focus Weeks for 2025-2026. These weeks are designed to create a global impact by concentrating our efforts on specific causes. By aligning our service activities, we can amplify our impact and visibility, showing the world the power of collective action.

Service Focus Weeks

  • MENTAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING:  October 4 - 12, 2025 Aligns with World Mental Health Day
  • HUNGER: January 3 - 11, 2026, Celebrate Melvin Jones' Birthday
  • ENVIRONMENT: April 18 - 26, 2026 Aligns with Earth Day

Each week of service will incorporate two weekends to allow clubs maximum flexibility in their planning. We encourage to engage our district clubs with these causes throughout the year, but during these specific weeks, we aim to create a unified, global impact.

HELMET AWARENESS & DISTRIBUTION DRIVE, National Road Safety Month 2026

Location: Strategic Junctions, Bicholim, Goa 1. Introduction Continuing our commitment to National Road Safety Month 2026, the Lions Club of Bicholim, in association with the Office of the Assistant Director of Transport, Bicholim and the Leo Club of Bicholim, conducted a unique awareness drive focused on two-wheeler safety on 29th January 2026. The primary objective was to move beyond enforcement and focus on education and empathy, specifically targeting riders commuting without protective headgear. 2. The Initiative: "Safety Over Penalties" Unlike standard enforcement drives where violators are fined, this initiative adopted a reformative approach: Identification: Officials from the Transport Department identified and stopped two-wheeler riders who were not wearing helmets. Counseling: Instead of issuing immediate challans, the riders were counseled by Lions and Leo members regarding the critical importance of protecting the head during accidents. Distribution: In a gesture of care, new ISI-marked helmets were handed over to these riders free of cost, ensuring they left the spot safer than they arrived. 3. Sponsorship & Contribution The success of this impactful drive was made possible through the generous sponsorship of the club's leadership. Helmets worth a total of ₹5,000 were donated for this specific cause. This contribution was jointly made by Lion President Ketan Amonkar and Lion Secretary Siddesh Jirge. 4. Impact & Conclusion The drive created a positive stir among the public. The recipients expressed gratitude and pledged to wear helmets mainly for their safety rather than just to avoid fines. The Assistant Director of Transport appreciated the Lions Club of Bicholim for taking a proactive and humanitarian approach to road safety.

School Vision Screening Program

Lions Club of Bicholim & Lions Club of Aldona JOINT SERVICE PROJECT REPORT Event Title: School Vision Screening Program Venue: Our Lady of Grace High School Organized By: Lions Club of Bicholim in association with Lions Club of Aldona 1. Introduction Driven by the global Lions mission to preserve sight, the Lions Club of Bicholim, together with the Lions Club of Aldona, organized an extensive eye screening initiative at Our Lady of Grace High School. This project focused on the early detection of visual disorders in children, specifically targeting conditions like Amblyopia (Lazy Eye) that often remain undetected without professional intervention. 2. Screening Methodology The team utilized a Plus Optix Hand Held Machine (imported from Germany) to conduct the screenings. This advanced, non-invasive technology provides rapid and reliable results, categorizing students as either “Pass” or “Refer” for further specialized evaluation. 3. Key Statistics Total Students Screened: 500+ Location: Our Lady of Grace High School premises Target Group: School students 4. Observations and Outcomes Referral Process: Any student receiving a “Refer” result was issued a refractive measurement printout to facilitate follow-up care with their parents. End-to-End Care: In line with our club's commitment to providing a “start to end” solution, we are coordinating follow-up consultations with professional ophthalmologists for all referred students as part of our next project phase. 5. Conclusion The screening of over 500 students at Our Lady of Grace High School marks another successful milestone in our joint efforts to safeguard the vision of our community's youth. We remain dedicated to ensuring every “Refer” student receives the necessary clinical evaluation and treatment.
